When I joined campus the first question we were all asked by the lecturer before starting any lesson was `` Why do you want to be a lawyer? That's easy I thought, I want to be a lawyer because I have a very strong passion for the law which drives me to want to be part of advocating for the respect of the rule of law.'' How best other than THROUGH my career?
Well you see, I did make the decision to follow this career path when I was 14 years old in class 8. Being in boarding primary school i used to go home on midterms and closing days. One day during my midterms I went home and my younger brother told me there was bad blood between my parents and one of our neighbors who had bought the land adjacent to ours. I enquired more about the situation and I learned that the guy claimed our land was bigger than it should be and that we had hived some part of it. He began being aggressive and abusive to a point where he assaulted my mum and my dad acted in her defense and erupted into a physical fight eventually a court case.
What I did not understand was why our good neighbor the previous owner consented to sell the land to such kind of a person. He would cut down trees in our land without permission or consent of my parents as if he owned the place. His lack of candor and mannerisms really put me off and I wondered how on earth our peace would just be shattered within a blink of an eye. This was not right and definitely, something had to be done. I was only a minor but I knew there existed laws on Land somehow. I wanted to know this law first and foremost. I needed to have that knowledge not only on land but all other laws there was to know. There was this urge inside of me to protect my family from such situations in a manner like to know how to deal with such issues.
I knew I had to be a Lawyer. When I joined high school I did not really know what subjects would propel me towards my dream career but it turned out my choice was perfect for my career and I did quite well in them and the following exams towards my career. It is funny though how people perceived the legal profession. That to be a lawyer you have to be talkative, a noisemaker, hugely built please! we talking brains here not chauvinist, stereotype believes those will get you nowhere. I have up to now come to learn that it's only you and you alone can make you happen. It is your sole responsibility to mold you to reach your goal. People will talk, they discourage you, they will tell you you are built for it, but m here to tell you, what your mind can conceive, your mind can achieve. Do not let cheerleaders critics faze you out. Go for it you got it's yours. Be your own sunshine, set the levels for yourself, strive to make yourself better each day and it will get easier to reach your goals. Patience pays, and so does hard work and self-belief.
Always have a plan to better yourself and be consistent with it.
